A friend and I were talking about how it is important to take care of things before they become a problem. It started out with how when he was younger, he almost never cleaned his upper. He would go out and shoot it then only clean it enough so that it would not misfire the next time he took it out. Well, one day when he had taken it hunting, he had this big buck in his sights. However, when he went to shoot it, he found that he couldn't get his rifle to work. The gunpowder residue that he had accumulated from his barely cleaning it had stopped him from getting that prize.

Much like how it is very important to keep your weapons clean and well maintained, it is also important to make sure that you don't accidentally over clean your upper as well. Yes, there is such a thing. If you oil your upper down to clean it, then wipe every spec of oil off, your upper will be to dry and parts are more likely to break.
