I once asked why people decorate graves with flowers. It didn't seem to make any sense to me. After looking it up, it seems that decorating graves with flowers goes back all the way to Ancient Greece and Ancient Roman times. It was a way to honor the dead as well as hide the smell of death. It was believed that if a flower blooms on a grave, that it meant that the spirit was happy on the other side.

I personally believe that this is a beautiful tradition. Lightening up the graveyard with flowers in a way that it almost feels like the dead are there with you, celebrating their lives. Who knows, but there may be some truth to that story.
