Over the last decade

Happy New Years Eve guys! Today is not only special because it is the last day of the year, it is a very special day because it is the last day of the decade! So much has changed since 2010 even though it may not feel like it.

We were talking about what has happened in the last decade that we can remember being big and this is what we have come up with: the first gen Apple iPad came out in 2010, planking became a trend, the final book of Harry Potter came out, Gangnam Style was a huge hit, people thought the world would end in 2012, Harlem Shake became a thing, the song 'what does the fox say' took over, the ice bucket challenge happened, people fought over the colour of a dress, DiCaprio finally won an Oscar, Pokemon Go took over the world, fidget spinners became a trend, we finally got to see a black hole and so much more. Whatever life brings to you this next decade, we here at DTT hope it is a good one.

Quote of the day: "However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. It matters that you don't just give up." -Stephen Hawking

Fruitcake: Why is it traditional

If there is one thing about Christmas time that gets made fun of, it is fruitcake. That small hard "cake" that seems to be indestructible. In almost every show that I have watched, fruitcake is the constant butt of the joke in a Christmas episode.

The history of the fruitcake is more fascinating than the actual cake itself. Dating all the way back to the Roman times, fruitcake is believed to be a way of preserving fruits since they are dried then pressed into a form with nuts and honey. Picking up popularity in Victorian England times, the fruitcake was often a dish only brought for special occasions. When the tradition was brought over, it because a symbol for the holiday season because the season holds a special place in all of our hearts and thus, so does fruitcake.

Day After Christmas

One of the best things about Christmas growing up was that there was no school so the neighborhood kids could all get together and show off our toys to each other and just have a day of playing with not only our new toys but our friends as well.

Well, now that we have all grown up, we no longer have such a day. Even though it is the day after Christmas, it is still a work day. So, that means that even though it may not be the most productive day ever, it still means you have to get up early and go talk to your co-workers for a while before heading back home to the kids with their noisy new toys. For those of you who don't really want to focus on work or those of you who don't really want to be around noisy kids, check out the deals below that we have for you. Who knows, you may find something you like and spend more time on finding items to go with it that before you know it, it will be time for bed.

Christmas Decorations Under the Stairs

We were talking around the office about what people like to do on the day after Christmas and one of the best ones that was brought up was taking down all of the Christmas things only to have them shoved under the stairs until they are required again next year.

There are some people who leave their Christmas lights up around their house all year round and I even know some people who don't take their tree down until the first of the year! Whether you are someone who likes Christmas decorations all year round or someone who takes it down the day after simply because it is time to focus on New Years, we have deals for everyone to browse through and enjoy down below!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! Whether your Christmas is snowy or sunny, we here at DTT hope you guys have a wonderful day of happiness and good food. May all of your gifts be exactly what you wanted and may your family all behave.

A Christmas tradition that seems to be popular around the office is to eat a special breakfast before opening gifts and then after you open all the gifts, watch your favorite Christmas movie. Some of the favorites around the office have been: National Lampoon's Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Home Alone 2, and even Elf. So, whatever your traditions are on Christmas, we here at DTT hope you have a fantastic one.

Giftbags VS Wrapping

We all know the process of wrapping a gift for the Holidays. Pick out the paper you like most, attempt to wrap the gift, give up in frustration, put it in a gift bag with tissue paper. I once heard someone say that using a gift bag was the easy way out. Well, she isn't wrong.

I don't know about you guys, but I actually like wrapping gifts. I love making all of the creases and making the gift look like it came out of a cheesy Christmas movie. However, not everyone has the time to sit down for a while and struggle with the paper and tape and whatnot. Some people have little kids that think the paper would be good for messing with the dog. So, while putting it in a gift bag may be the easier way of doing things, that doesn't dampen the value of the gift that the person took so long to get for you. So, this Christmas, enjoy all the gifts whether they are wrapped, bagged, or show up on your doorstep because you simply couldn't pass up on the deals that DTT have given you.

We are announcing the winners of our Holiday Giveaways tomorrow morning, Dec 24, 2019, so don't forget to enter to win one of our amazing prizes! We are giving you guys until midnight MST to enter to win! Remember, you can enter for any of the giveaways, so pick whichever you want to win and enter for a chance!

Procrastination for Christmas

I went to the mall this weekend with my family for a bit of light shopping and I noticed that there were a lot more people than I had ever seen in the mall at one time before. Then it clicked that it was the last weekend before Christmas and people were running around trying to find those last perfect gifts since they have to work this week.

As many of my friends can be witness to, I am very much a procrastinator. I don't know about you guys, but most of the time I tend to wait until the last moment to do something whether it is a school paper or wrapping gifts. So, if you are also a procrastinator and don't have all the gifts, check out our amazing deals below that your friends and family will love and, if they don't, then are more likely to give back to you anyway, so it is a win-win!

We are announcing the winners of our Holiday Giveaways tomorrow morning, Dec 24, 2019, so don't forget to enter to win one of our amazing prizes!

Non-Traditional Foods On Christmas Eve

One tradition for Christmas Eve that personally sounds really good is one where you eat non-traditional foods. For instance, one of my co-workers and his family eats tacos every Christmas Eve. Another friend of mine eats breakfast food.

Another part of that is that my family always gets together the night after Christmas and eats chili and french fries that we make from scratch. So, whatever you guys decide to munch on while you browse through our wares, we here at DTT hope it is delicious and filling.

If you guys want to participate in the giveaway that we have been doing lately, it is not to late! We are giving you guys until Dec. 23rd to enter to win one or more of the amazing prizes that we are giving away this Christmas season.

Christmas Eve Tradition

Another Christmas tradition that came up is one of my personal favorites. One of my co-workers said that the best tradition that their family does on Christmas is that they each get super comfy pajamas on Christmas Eve to sleep in that night. The reason they do this is because when they were little, they couldn't wait to open presents so their parents did this to sate them.

As part of this pajama tradition, they would also pick out a Christmas movie to watch that night to enjoy. Most often was Grinch but every so often they would watch Home Alone or even Die Hard when they got older.

Skiing Christmas Tradition

While we were talking about Christmas traditions, there was one that caught my attention. The main man himself told us about a tradition that they do in his family about taking his children skiing on Christmas day.

To quote himself, his tradition is "A form of torture that we love and look forward to." When he was asked to explain, he pointed out that since children have a lot of candy and sweets on Christmas day, they don't really want to go out into the cold and go down a mountain but they do it anyway. As for the parents, having a child hyped up on sugar running around and then to take them on top of a mountain and have them run around up there can be very tiring. At least they all sleep good that night.

Christmas Lights Tradition

We were talking about our favorite Christmas traditions here at the office and one of the ones that we talked about was driving around the neighborhood to look at all of the Christmas lights.

The way they would do it is they would all pile into the car and then go to their favorite spots to see if they did anything new this year. Another co-worker said that their family bundled up in the bed of the truck with some hot chocolate and lots of blankets and drove around the neighborhood that way so that they could swivel their heads around and get a full 360 degree view. Either way, it is super fun to look at all of the bright lights that people like to decorate with and even better to spend the time with your friends and family, no matter how cold it is.

6.5 Creedmoor Giveaway

My wife finally found me and she went berserk,
For shooting Rudolf she thought I was a real jerk.
Scolded me good, with her hands on hips pose,
We would get no gifts from Santa no shoes no guns no clothes.
My explanation about the scene to her seemed superficial,
That a deer would be sighting me with a red laser-guided missile.
Totally furious and completely filled with spite,
Eating Rudolph for Christmas dinner she agreed tasted just right.

Ugly Christmas Sweaters

A fun Christmas tradition that has been observed is that of the ugly Christmas sweaters. Those sweaters that you just want to hide or burn upon glancing on them. Due to the tradition of having an ugly Christmas sweater contest at Christmas parties has led to these monstrosities being kept alive.

Out of all of the traditions around the Christmas time, this one seems to be one that puts people in the most cheer. It mixes being silly with being competitive and, honestly, it tends to be a good mix especially if you have a large group. So, stay warm out there guys and stay silly.

Quote of the Day: "Three phrases that sum up Christmas are: Peace on Earth, Goodwill to Men, and Batteries not Included." -Unknown

Christmas Carol Anniversary

The Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens is probably the second most well known Christmas story. It has had many adaptations of the original story, but the theme still rings true about the true meaning of Christmas.

It is easy to get wrapped up in the idea that everyone has to have the perfect gift and that Christmas is all about getting things and parties and pretty lights. Well, much like Mr. Scrooge unwillingly did, it is important to take a moment and step back from all of the hustle and focus on what Christmas really means. Spending time with loved ones and making memories that will last for generations to come. So, just like this classic tale written 176 years ago, take a breath and just enjoy the season.

Quote of the Day: “There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.”- Charles Dickens

On the naughty list forever I should indulge myself.
My disappointment was real a few tears I did shed,
My taxidermist I must call to mount Rudolf’s head

Magazine Giveaway

After a few deep breathes I began to calm down,
Outside I ventured to see what I shot down.
Across my lawn I trekked the snow crunched underfoot,
The deer did not move where it fell it stayed put.
My hand came to my forehead where it did smack,
My doctor I must call to get prescribed Prozac.

Stock Giveaway

I crept towards the ruckus without making a sound,
to an upstairs window to get the high ground.
I beheld some tracks on the fresh new snow,
then the moonlight silhouetted the creatures below.
To my great astonishment, I began to fear,
a red laser sight coming from a deer.
It was getting crazy and happening so quick,
my safety selector my finger did flick.

First Giveaway

Twas the night before Christmas and all throughout the land,
all the patriots were grateful their AR’s were not banned.
Their stocks are all collapsed too to fit in their safes,
and they are wondering if descending a chimney Santa would chafe.
The patriots and their families were all tucked into bed,
wondering if the new guns Santa would bring would be belt-fed?
With my Glock in my nightstand for an intruder I might cap,
gives me peace of mind for a Christmas Eve nap.
When outside there came a great clamor,
I grabbed my Creedmoor to investigate the matter.

Christmas Giveaway Announcement

We re-wrote the poem Twas the Night Before Christmas.  Similar to what we did last year with our 12 Days of DTT (we re-wrote 12 days of Christmas).  If you aren’t familiar with that check out our video HERE.  But that was last year, and this is this year, and we couldn’t re-run the same promotion we did, so we knocked off another form of traditional Christmas Content which you can check out HERE.  But like last year we are doing giveaways every day in association with the poem.

Here are the rules/guidelines for the giveaways.
