General Barrel Info: The barrel on an AR-15 originally operates under a 'gas impingement' system' by tapping gas off of the barrel and cycling it back through the gas system to assist the bolt carrier in unlocking and extracting the spent cartridge. AR-15 Barrels come in four different specifications for gas systems, pistols, Carbine, Mid-Length, and Rifles. AR-15 Barrels vary between profiles as well as from Government, to Heavy, and Slim. About This Barrel: Looking to start a new retro AR-15 build? This 16-inch Front Sight Base Barrel operates on a carbine gas system and has a 1:8 twist rate. It is crafted from 4150 CMV with a high-strength black nitride finish. It features an A2 F-Marked Base Gas Block and a round handguard cap and also includes the A2 Delta Ring Assembly for quick installation for drop-in handguards. This barrel will make a great addition to your next 5.56 NATO build.
About the Profile: M4 - The M4 barrel profile is lightweight under the handguards, until just before the gas port. After the gas port, it gets heavier, out to the muzzle.

Material: 4150 CrMoV - Chrome-Moly Vanadium, or simply "CMV", is the official mil-spec gun steel developed by Colt Firearms for the military-issued M16 and M4. It contains the same elements as 4150 steel. It also contains Vanadium. Vanadium significantly increases the strength, hardness, and high-temperature stability of steel.
Finish: Nitriding is a process during manufacturing that diffuses nitrogen into the steel to make a case-hardened surface for improved resistance and strength. A Nitrided barrel typically has a gloss black texture.
Thread Pitch: 1/2x28 - This threading is commonly found on barrels chambered in 5.56, .223, and .224. This will allow the installation of most muzzle devices such as flash hiders, blast cans, and compensators threaded to 1/2x28 threads.
